Information relating to AdoptionWhen an adopted person reaches the age of 18 they can apply for their original birth certificate. The information usually gives the full name of your birth mother her marital status and address at the time. As an adopted person you can also have access to your birth records and adoption files. If you were adopted prior to 12th November 1975 an appointment with an Adoption Counsellor at Social Services will have to be arranged before gaining access to your Birth Records. If the adoption took place after 11th Nov 1975 you can decide for yourself whether or not to see a counsellor. You might find talking to them beneficial as they can offer useful advice on your search.
